St Francis School ~ November Newsletter Fourth Grade Class Prayer Dear Lord, We thank you for our families, friends, classmates, teachers and everyone in our school and community that prove your love by sharing their kindness, patience, and generosity. We ask you to help us choose positive words and actions throughout each day. We also ask for your help in providing for the needs of all of us and any person throughout the world who struggle with finding water, food, clothing, shelter, and any other basic life necessity. Amen. PRAYER PARTNERS: Please join us as we lift up Mrs. Huebel and our Fourth Grade students in prayer during the month of November. During the month of December, we will focus on Advent and the Christmas season. All Saints Day - November 1 Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; and His faithfulness continues through all generations. Psalm 100:4-5 In honor of All Saints Day on November 1st, you are invited to join in our Annual Prayerful Remembrance. Throughout the month of November, please write the names of your departed relatives and friends on the enclosed form and return it. These names will be placed in a basket near the altar at church. You can return the form to school, place it in the collection basket at a weekend Mass, or place it in the basket at the altar. During the month of November we will pray as a community during Mass for our loved ones who have gone home to heaven. We hope that you will all join us in this wonderful St. Francis tradition. FOLLOWING IN JESUS’ FOOTSTEPS **Please help us continue to celebrate our virtue awards winners at home and in your prayers. We will celebrate them at Masses when Father returns from Poland in December. VIRTUE AWARDS FOR BEING DILIGENT: Diligent – I start fast, work hard, and finish strong. St Francis IS NOT taking those days off. The days chosen are Friday, November 13 and Friday, December 11. We will be in school and counting those days in our attendance. 4K and Preschool will also be in session. Wrap around care and Eagles Nest Before and After School Care will be available. Even if you’ve never used those programs, please feel free to set up service for those days. Doing this ahead of time will ensure we have enough staff present to best serve our students. Unfortunately, there will be no buses running those days. You will need to provide transportation for your child or set up a virtual day with your child’s classroom teacher. ***We will be recording the Christmas Program on December 11, please try to arrange a ride for your child. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. We are trying to put less stress on all of you by staying in school. Thanks for helping us with this schedule change. MR. BUCKEL IS RETIRING! He’s really doing it! Mr. Buckel has been such a savior for our school. He leaves a legacy in education over 30 years long. I know he’s been the principal to many of our parents and now for their children. We want to appreciate him with a huge celebration, but with Covid 19, we are limited to some cake at school. We hope all of you will reach out to Mr. Buckel in some way over the next month to show your appreciation for his presence in your lives and the great work he has done for our school. Here’s hoping his retirement is relaxing and rewarding! NEW PRINCIPAL: The rumors are true! Mrs. Swanson will become our new principal on December 1st. She will continue her role as our 5th grade teacher until the right replacement is found and have some daily work time in the office as well. The best transitions are the seamless ones and Mrs. Swanson’s goal is to make that so. TUITION ASSISTANCE: Tuition Assistance has been applied to the accounts of our families who have requested assistance and have paid at least half of your tuition. Please contact the school office by Wednesday, November 4th if you are in need of assistance for the 2020-2021 school year. SPECIAL HARVEST BREAKFAST - THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29: We will have a special Harvest Breakfast for students on Thursday, October 29, complete with pumpkins carved by our fifth grade class. Please see the enclosed flyer for more information. END OF FIRST QUARTER: The first quarter ends on Thursday, October 29. TEACHER IN-SERVICE – FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30 (NO SCHOOL): Students do not have classes on Friday, October 30. This is a district-wide in-service day. THANKSGIVING VACATION - NOVEMBER 25-27: There will be no school on Wednesday, November 25 through Friday, November 27 for Thanksgiving Vacation. Classes will resume again on Monday, November 30. CHRISTMAS PROGRAM In the spirit of remaining healthy and yet upholding our Catholic School traditions, your children who are in grades K-5 will rehearse and perform a Christmas Program, but unfortunately, there will be no live performance or reception. Our videographer will record individual classroom performances as well as the dialogue portions of the play, and then creatively join those pieces together to make it appear as if all the children are performing together. Rehearsals and filmings will be only with their classmates. As has been our practice during Covid 19, children in all grade levels will not be performing together. The performance will be streamed to parents. We will send you the specifics as soon as we know them. You will also be given the opportunity to purchase our concert DVD. As with everything this year, this is new territory. We will do our best to keep you abreast of what is happening and when you can expect to see the program. The important thing for us is that our children will have a Christmas Program. Covid 19 or not, Christmas is coming and will be celebrated to the best of our ability at St. Francis Catholic School. 4YK AND PRESCHOOL WINTER PROGRAM: We are not sure what creative means we will find to have our 4YK or Preschool programs. More info to come. CHRISTMAS VACATION: Christmas vacation will start on Wednesday, December 23. Classes will resume on Monday, January 4. HOLIDAY FOOD AND FUNDS DRIVE: Our 5th Grade Class at St. Francis is sponsoring their annual Holiday Food and Funds Drive to benefit the Ellsworth Food Pantry. In October alone, our local pantry served 394 of our friends and neighbors. Please give what you can to help everyone in our community have enough to eat during this Holiday Season. Please see the enclosed flyer for all the info! Thanks so much for your help! EAGLES NEST BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE PROGRAM: Our Eagles Nest Program was started three years ago to provide a service for our families who needed care for their children outside the hours of our school day. This year, with the changes in work schedules and parents working from home, Eagles Nest Care has not been needed by as many families as in years past. We are working hard to continue this program as we believe it is an important service to our families. However, this means we do need to make some changes to our program. We are trying to keep these changes small so the impact on our families is as minimal as possible. Effective November 1st, our cost per hour will increase $.50 per hour. If this will cause a hardship to your family, please contact the school office. Eagles Nest Before and After School Care is a safe, fun place for your child to play and be creative in a relaxing environment. It is important to us to be able to continue this wonderful program for our families and would love to see our attendance increase! Every St. Francis' family is welcome to use this program! If you need to work early or late, have a meeting, or need to run errands we are here for you!
